All GCU International Students are invited to attend our new series of seminars which focus on refining your job search techniques. Each session focuses on a particular aspect of finding a part-time  job, internship or graduate level job – you’ll discover lots of hints and tips that will assist you in getting to the interview stage and beyond!

31 January                         Prepare for the Careers Fair 2017

How can you prepare for talking to employers who recruit students and graduates?
Do you want to meet graduate employers or make enquires about internships? A Careers Fair is great chance to meet organisations looking to recruit and there is an upcoming one being held in Glasgow on 8 February

This ‘Prepare for the Fair’ session will provide tips and advice to show you how to make the most of this event and how best to prepare your questions and develop your networking skills.

Come along to this informal session and find out how to impress!

 

7 February                         Part-time Jobs, Internships and Work Experience

This session is aimed at students who want to explore and share different approaches to searching for part-time jobs, internships and work experience.

Can you build on any previous experience? How can you break into a new sector? What are the best job websites for the type of opportunity you are looking for? Are recruitment agencies an option?

By sharing experiences and different approaches you will get a better understanding of what suits your specific interests.

 

14 February                       Job Search – here, there and everywhere

Learn how to develop your job search skills for future internships, graduate employment or part-time work. Where are you looking? Glasgow, Scotland, UK, returning home or looking for opportunities in other countries. Improve your skills in finding opportunities by identifying the most useful resources and web sites.

  • Develop your job search strategy
  • Research internship and graduate opportunities
  • Understand the graduate labour market
  • Improve worldwide job search with GoinGlobal and networking through professional social media, such as LinkedIn

 

21 February                       Successful CVs

Need to update or improve your CV? Need to refresh it so that it has the impact that you want it to have? Not sure how to deal with individual sections or headings? Have all your questions answered in this informal group session.

Bring along a paper copy of your CV and get it into shape! Be prepared to share and to find out how to make your CV stand out from the crowd.

 

28 February                       Interview Skills

Learn how to impress at interviews and be really prepared for the different styles of questions that you might be asked. This session will help you to:

  • Develop active listening skills
  • Identify typical interview questions
  • Be confident when answering competency based question
  • Learn useful interview hints and tips
  • Know how to arrange a practice interview with a careers adviser
  • Know how to access SONRU online video practice

All sessions will be held in Seminar Room 1 Campus Life Lounge, George Moore 4.00 – 500pm
