NEW International Careers Insight Sessions announced!

Our Insight Sessions have been specially developed for all international students studying at GCU. Each session focuses on a topic that is of key interest to this group, so come along and find out some great information which will assist you in your hunt for graduate level employment.

These are all short, informal sessions – there’s no need to book to reserve you place, just come along on the day. The four sessions which will be taking place in October are:

Title: Making the Most of the Fair

When: Tuesday 4th October 2016

Time: 5:00-6:00pm

Venue: Seminar Rooms 1 & 2, Campus Life Lounge, George Moore Building

Are you planning to attend the Scottish Graduate Fair in Glasgow on 12th and 13th October? Do you want to meet graduate employers or find out about internships? This session will provide tips and advice to show you how to make the most of this event and how best to prepare for making the right impression.

The Scottish Graduate Fair is the biggest graduate, postgraduate and internship recruitment event in Scotland attracting over 4,000 students and graduates of all disciplines. Over 100 graduate employers and postgraduate recruiters are expected to be there.

Students and graduates from all universities are welcome to attend.


Title: Interview Skills

When: Tuesday 11th October 2016

Time: 5:00-6:00pm

Venue: Seminar Rooms 1 & 2, Campus Life Lounge, George Moore Building

Learn how to impress at interviews and be really prepared for the different styles of questions that you might be asked. This session will help you to:

  • Develop active listening skills
  • Identify typical interview questions
  • Be confident when answering competency based question
  • Learn useful interview hints and tips
  • Know how to arrange a practice interview with a careers adviser

Title: How To Improve My CV

When: Tuesday 18th October 2016

Time: 5:00-6:00pm

Venue: Seminar Rooms 1 & 2, Campus Life Lounge, George Moore Building

Need to update your CV? Need to refresh it so that it has the impact that you want it to have? Not sure how to deal with individual sections or headings? Have all your questions answered in this informal group session.

Bring along a paper copy of your CV and get it into shape! Be prepared to share and to find out how to make your CV stand out from the crowd.


Title: Part-Time Jobs & Work Experience

When: Tuesday 25th October 2016

Time: 5:00-6:00pm

Venue: Seminar Rooms 1 & 2, Campus Life Lounge, George Moore Building

This session is aimed at students who want to explore and share different approaches to searching for part-time jobs and work experience.

Can you build on any previous experience? How can you break into a new sector? What are the best job websites for the type of opportunity you are looking for? Are recruitment agencies an option? By sharing experiences and different approaches you will get a better understanding of what suits your specific interests.
