Prepare For the Fair

When: Monday, 1st of February 2016
Where: Careers Seminar Room – Campus Life Lounge, Level 1, George Moore building
Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

International Career chats are informal group discussions facilitated by a careers consultant.  This session is aimed at international students who want to find out about careers fairs:

  • when and where they take place and
  • how to prepare for engaging with employers at these events

The Careers Consultant will support the chat with advice and resources.  They’re a bit like attending a tutorial or class discussion.  You may want to keep in touch with other participants following the careers chat to continue to offer further mutual support.

Graduate Fairs in the UK may be different to those run in your home country. Fairs can be organised by theme or can cover a variety of businesses and organisations. Virtual Fairs can also being organised to help students and graduates have a dialogue with companies around the globe. In Scotland, there are two major Careers Fairs held every year, in February and October.

 


 

Successful CVs

When: Tuesday, 9th of February 2016
Where: Careers Seminar Room – Campus Life Lounge, Level 1, George Moore building
Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm

International Career chats are informal group discussions facilitated by a careers consultant.  This session is aimed at international students who want to learn about different styles and formats of CVs and find out what UK employers are really looking for in CVs.

By sharing the challenges that you are experiencing in writing successful CVs, you will be able to:

  • improve and tailor your CV to impress employers and
  • get your CV noticed!

The Careers Consultant will support the chat with advice and resources.  They’re a bit like attending a tutorial or class discussion.  You may want to keep in touch with other participants following the careers chat to continue to offer further mutual support.

By the end of the session you will have shared and learned about:

  • Different styles and structures for CVs
  • Tailoring and targeting your CV
  • Promoting your skills, experience and achievements
  • The language that will get employers’ attention
  • Support offered by the careers team

 


Part-Time Jobs & Work Experience

When: Tuesday, 16th of February 2016
Where: Careers Seminar Room – Campus Life Lounge, Level 1, George Moore building
Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm

International Career chats are informal group discussions facilitated by a careers consultant.  This session is aimed at international students who want to explore and share different approaches to searching for part-time jobs and work experience. Can you build on any previous experience? How can you break into a new sector? What are the best job websites for the type of opportunity you are looking for? Are recruitment agencies an option?

By sharing experiences and different approaches you will get a better understanding of what suits your specific interests.

GoinGlobal

When: Tuesday, 23rd of February 2016
Where: Careers Seminar Room – Campus Life Lounge, Level 1, George Moore building
Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm

International Career chats are informal group discussions facilitated by a careers consultant.  This session is aimed at international  students who want to find out about internships and graduate opportunities either in the UK or globally. Do you know where to find key resources?  What are country profiles? What is the GoinGlobal website? How can I find out about opportunities if I am returning home?

By sharing experiences and different approaches you will get a better understanding of what suits your specific interests.
