Career Service Insight Sessions for International Students – sign up now!


Our ever popular Insight Sessions created for our GCU international students will once again be starting next week. Over the coming weeks we will be hosting a series of sessions which will help you research and find graduate recruiters, put together a fantastic CV, and show you how to impress at the interview stage.

  • All the sessions will take place in Events Space 1 on the ground floor of the Saltire Centre (behind the cafe) 3pm – 4pm.

Tuesday 7th October: Graduate Fairs Explained – Going to the Fair? Graduate Employers will be there!

Graduate Fairs in the UK may be different to those run in your home country. Fairs can be organised by theme or can cover a variety of businesses and organisations. Virtual Fairs can also being organised to help students and graduates have a dialogue with companies around the globe. In Scotland, there are two major Graduate Fairs held every year, in March and October.

This session will help you to:

  • Prepare for Graduate Fairs – Scottish Graduate Fair 22-23 October in the SECC, Glasgow
  • Develop the networking skills you need to impress at a fair
  • Talk confidently to employers
  • Find out dates and locations of fairs


Tuesday 14th October: Successful CVs

Learn how to create a strong and effective CV. Find out how you can improve and tailor your CV to impress employers and get you noticed.

By the end of the session you will know about:

  • Different styles and structures for CVs
  • Top tips for tailoring and targeting your CV
  • Promoting your skills, experience and achievements
  • The language that will get employers’ attention
  • Support offered by the careers team


Tuesday 28th October: Going Global

Learn about this excellent NEW resource for all GCU students and recent graduates. Packed full of advice for finding information and jobs at home or abroad. An opportunity to find out the key information that will help you to ‘go global’!

By the end of this session you will know how to:

  • Search for global opportunities – graduate and internships
  • Find out key information for applications through extensive Country Profiles
  • Research company information
  • Make the most of accessing ‘Going Global’
  • Get support from the careers team


Tuesday 4th November: Interview Skills

Learn how to impress at interviews and be really prepared for the different styles of questions that you might be asked. This session will help you to:

  • Develop active listening skills
  • Identify typical interview questions
  • Be confident when answering competency based question
  • Learn useful interview hints and tips
  • Know how to arrange a practice interview with a careers adviser at GCU
