Software Cornwall: Summer School for Software Engineers

08/03/2013

Software Cornwall is a group of software companies who have come together to provide a collective voice and to organise events, training and other activities to support the Cornish software industry (http://www.softwarecornwall.org/about/).  Highly regarded for their diligence, expertise and excellent product delivery, Software Cornwall are passionate about investing in the development of not only their own employees but also the next generation of Software Engineers.

The ‘Foundation Fortnight’ provides students a chance to demonstrate their skills to employers over a 2 week period in July 2013, with the potential of securing their first postgraduate job as a result.  This event is primarily aimed at students undertaking a Computer Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering degree, though applications from students on other such relevant degree courses will also be considered.

Software Cornwall are looking to welcome a number of enthusiastic students to participate in ‘Foundation Fortnight’ taking place during 2 weeks in July 2013, starting on Monday 8th and running until Friday 19th at Falmouth University’s Tremough Campus

Foundation Fortnight will consist of a live programming project undertaken by attendants within a structured team and overseen by a collection of the most experienced software coders in the Cornish digital sector.  This will be an incredible opportunity not only to receive expert advice from highly regarded industry professionals and consultants but also to demonstrate your own skills and abilities to potential employers.  Following on from the live programming aspect of the event, an invitation will be extended to a number of candidates to stay an additional week to spend time with local software companies.  These will be employers who will have formed a keen interest in your apt software proficiency and would like to take a closer look at offering you a job!

We have been able to secure some tremendous facilities, such as a modern and well equipped seminar room for the day time with a gymnasium and bar for the evening.  The venue is close to a wealth of Falmouth’s finest pubs and restaurants, serving a wide range of Cornish beer and food.  We are also arranging for a few extra outings to show you one or two of the local Cornish hotspots, sights and landmarks.

Places are limited and for the top 20 students who apply prior to the 31st March 2013  admittance to the event, accommodation and food will be FREE, beyond which students still interested in attending will be required to part fund their participation.  For residential students the cost of partaking in the event is set at £1200, as for non-residential this cost will be £400 including VAT.

So if you believe you have what it takes to shape the future of the digital world, then DO NOT hesitate in submitting your application and registering your interest today at www.softwarecornwall.org/foundation-fortnight-application-2.  We look forward to hearing from you!
