Scottish Institute for Enterprise: New Ideas Competition

21/11/2012

If you have an idea, then SIE’s New Ideas competition is for you. You’ll have the chance to win a cash prize and in-kind business support to help you develop your idea into a real business venture.

Don’t worry if you don’t know a lot about business, that’s what SIE are here for! The process is designed to help you develop your business know-how and show you how to turn a good idea into a successful new business. So even if you’re not a winner, you’ll still benefit from SIE’s help and be in a great position to take the next steps.

Has inspiration struck?

If you have an idea for a new product, service or a way to make the world a better place, then our New Ideas competition is for you!

You’ll have a chance to win a cash prize and in-kind business support to help develop your idea into a real business venture. Don’t worry if you don’t know a lot about business as SIE will be there to help you every step of the way.

How to enter, full competition guidelines and information on how to enter is available at: www.sie.ac.uk/newideas

You can also follow this link to enter the competition which will also be available on our Facebook groups and Twitter page (@sie_gcu), as well as hopefully many of our friends’ and partners’ pages. This competition is really a way for us to identify students who need a bit of support and guidance, and to bring interested people into the network. The ideas should be at an early stage, and need help with development in a business context. As we’re funded by SFC we never charge students for any support (we even pay travel fees).

We’ll run the competition at each University until 30th Nov, at which point we’ll judge up to 12 entries to proceed to the national competition. Those 12 will be invited to Start-Up Day, where they will receive a full day of training and workshops focused on developing their idea into a business model and further actions required. After that they will resubmit to the final stage where 6 category winners will receive £500 each, one of whom will be crowned overall winner at our Summit event in March, and will receive a further £1000.

Finally, if you are interested in joining a business enterprise society, students can join at the reception desk at the Students’ Association.

SIE is supported by the Scottish Funding Council, the European Regional Development Fund, and Scottish Enterprise.
