The Guardian Journalism Competition 2011


Do you have it in you to be a top-notch journalist? Here is the chance for you to prove you can write the kind of articles that appear in the Guardian.

They are looking for enthusiastic writers who want to demonstrate their journalistic abilities through examining crucial issues facing the developing world. Such issues are often under-represented by the media.

One of the competition strands is for amateurs, including students. All you need to do is write a 650-1000 word article by 13 June on any aspect of global poverty that deserves more media exposure than it currently receives. Finalists will have their articles published online at and will also be flown out to Africa or Asia for a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to research a new assignment.
