Researchers in Residence – Opportunity for Career Development and Training

27/04/2011

Funded by Research Councils UK (RCUK), the Researchers in Residence scheme organises opportunities for PhD students and post doctoral researchers to engage 11-18 year olds in host secondary schools or further education colleges across the UK. The aim is to engage students about researchers’ work via talks, discussions and practical demonstrations and inspire the next generation of researchers.

It is a free scheme open to many early stage researchers. The scheme offers a full-day session of professional communication training and on-going support for participating researchers. Involvement can help develop a researcher’s transferable skills and CV, and also help the researcher’s institution form on-going relationships with local schools and colleges.

Post doctoral researchers or PhD students in receipt of direct or indirect funding from one of the UK’s seven Research Councils or the Wellcome Trust are eligible to participate in the scheme. To apply, researchers should visit www.researchersinresidence.ac.uk.
